The day you sent your daughter off to college was probably one of the proudest moments of your life. You had visions of how she would make great new friends, learn interesting new things, and prepare herself for a rewarding career. You even warned her about all of the dangers out in the real world. You reminded her never to go out alone and always pay attention to her surroundings.
You couldn't have known that danger was waiting for her on the university campus and in the building she was supposed to call home for the next four years. Sadly, most college campuses are not as safe as parents are led to believe. Statistics of on-campus violence can be skewed since most colleges employ their own private security and can delay or even prevent the reporting of some violent crimes. Additionally, some students are too afraid or embarrassed to report being the victim of a violent crime.
Even colleges located in small towns have crime issues that aren't publicized. Instead the students discuss them via the campus grapevine and most parents never hear of them at all. If your child has been seriously injured or killed as a result of campus violence, you probably have a lot of questions. Unfortunately, finding answers can be more difficult than you think.
