LOSE TO GAIN:
Support Friends of Children by the Pound!!
It’s never easy to think of new ways to raise funds for our programs at Friends of Children, but two of our friends have come up with an idea that’s pretty unique.
Leslie and Lou Ekus of Holy Smokes BBQ plan to be a lot smaller six months from now and, at the same time, hope to raise much-needed funds to help support advocacy for vulnerable children in our area. The connection seems far-fetched but the event, dubbed “Lose to Gain,” matches dollars for pounds in this six month ordeal.
After much thought about what would be the best way for them to lose their unwanted pounds it occurred to Leslie and Lou that they could put those pounds to good use by having each one be worth important dollars to Friends of Children.
Lou and Leslie set out to recruit a gym to help them and Liz Dolby and Jeff Anderson at The Body Shoppe in Greenfield jumped at the idea. Liz and Jeff donated memberships and enlisted The Body Shoppe’s staff to act as the personal task masters and auditors in keeping the couple on track. After full medical exams and approval by their physicians, Leslie and Lou embarked on their get-healthy journey on February 29th.
Friends, family and local companies are joining in the effort by sponsoring Leslie and Lou’s weight loss. Each sponsor agrees to pledge an amount per pound to Friends of Children as to their total weight loss when the six month time limit is up. Leslie and Lou will do a “Final Weigh In” a la “Big Loser” on August 29th. Their goal is to lose a total of 100 pounds combined.
Every dollar raised will support our child advocacy programs. Thus far, the range of pledges (per pound of course) is from $ .50 to $10.00. If you would like to participate in this unique fundraiser, just mail or phone in your pledge! Then watch Lou and Leslie’s progress at www.losetogain.com.
